If there is one major thing I have learned over the years it is how to utilize a space even if you might not think at the time it is going to be good enough for an image. Over the last few days I have been working on some new promo images for Wade Designs Jewelry. Yesterday we took a few inside on a beautifully covered round couch. I positioned the couch in front of the big store windows in the front and photographer Mel right there in the middle of the store. The images had great lighting and I was able to capture the bracelets without glare from too much sunshine. This morning I decided I wanted to photograph Mel again since really you can never have too many promo shots for advertising. Every advertisement we do is different so it doesn't hurt to have an array of images to choose from.

Since I am doing these shoots during store hours we don't have the ability to go to different and fun locations. But honestly if you know what your doing and can find the right light it isn't a problem.

Here are a few tips when shooting in less than awesome circumstances.

Tip 1: Find a spot with little to no distraction in the back ground. Don't take a picture somewhere cluttered. You want the person to be the main focus of the shot.

Tip 2: Make sure if you are in the shade that you position your subject away from the wall and towards the light. This will help highlight your subjects face and allow your lens to grab that beautiful natural light.

Tip 3: Utilize your surroundings. Like in the behind the scenes picture above I am utilizing the large white columns to add a backdrop to the model. ... here is the result of the above behind the scenes image.
